Jamie Carragher has made a bold statement on the eve of the new Premier League Season. He claims that NONE of the new signings made by Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United would get into the Chelsea team. Do you agree?
Let's start with what he has actually said in his Newspaper column:
"I’ve been watching the action in the
window unfold and I am yet to see a signing that has made me think
‘wow’; for all the money that our clubs now have, we cannot say they
have bought someone from the elite.
The spree has clearly irritated Jose
Mourinho but he should relax: not one of the players who his rivals have
bought would get in Chelsea’s starting line-up.
It doesn’t matter whether you are
talking about Bastian Schweinsteiger, Raheem Sterling, Petr Cech or
Christian Benteke; none of them are at a level where they would waltz
into Stamford Bridge and take the place of those who helped Chelsea
become champions last season."
Does he have a point or is there one particular signing that YOU personally feel WOULD walk into the Chelsea team?
I tend to disagree with Carragher because of the current concerns I have
with the Chelsea squad. I personally believe that we remain TWO players
short of what I believe Jose Mourinho would like to have available to
him as we kick the season off against Swansea tonight.
We are crying out for a left back as we know, but I also think we could
do with another holding midfielder to play in a settled role next to
Nemanja Matic. Would Bastien Schweinsteiger have been someone we should
have looked at for that position?
With the current concerns we have about Diego Costa's hamstrings,
Christian Benteke for me would have been someone to think about. His
ability is fantastic and he is such a powerful, physical threat that he
would be considered in the same mould as Didier Drogba.
OK, he has some fine tuning to do and under the guidance of the right
manager, he could really take a step forward and become as influential
in games as Drogba was in his prime at Chelsea.
What about Raheem Sterling? Could he have been considered as someone to
play on our right hand side with Eden Hazard down the left? Willian is a
wonderful, wonderful player but not really a winger and with Sterling
down the right, Willian could have had a real contest with Oscar for the
number ten role instead?
So there you have it. I disagree with Carragher but that's just me. What do you people think?
