Pedro: The reason why I rejected Manchester United and joined Chelsea

The Spanish international, 27, joined the Premier League giants from Barcelona for a fee of £22m.

Prior to his move to the Bridge, the Spaniard was linked with a switch to Manchester United.

According to reports, United were on the verge of landing the winger after holding positive talks with the La Liga champions.

However, he spurned the Red Devils advances in order to join the West Londoners - who suffered an embarrassing 3-0 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.

Speaking to Chelsea TV, Pedro - who has three Champions League winners medals to his name - discussed his decision to join the Blues and revealed that a series of phone calls from the Special One convinced him to sign for the English champions.

"He is one of the main reasons why I’m here," Pedro told Chelsea TV.

"He phoned me a few times and said he needed me to make the team stronger.

"He has won titles wherever he has been. I am really looking forward to playing under him and hopefully winning more titles."

Pedro's move to Stamford Bridge sees him link up with his former Barcelona team-mate Cesc Fabregas.

The duo, who made 472 appearances for the Catalan club, are both graduates of the Barca's infamous La Masia academy and have known eachother since childhood.

And the Chelsea new-boy has admitted the former Arsenal captain helped convince him to make the move to the Premier League.

He added: "Yes, I spoke to Cesc. We are very good friends. I knew I would feel at home here and that was one of the main reasons why I decided to join.

"He’s a great player, he’s got brilliant vision and he links up really well with the other attacking players. I know we work well together on the pitch so I can’t wait to play with him again.

"I have also played with Diego Costa and Cesar Azpilicueta before, for the national team, so I feel very comfortable here."
